I hold a Bachelors of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics. I interned at Seattle Pacific University where I learned the in's and out's of many areas of dietetics. I worked full-time as an inpatient/residential dietitian at the Emily Program Residential site in Seattle for over two years. There, I worked with high acuity patients from all walks of life and with the entire range of eating disorders, as well as other coexisting conditions. Please know that I offer inclusive care, and that this is a safe environment for those who are neurodivergent, part of the LGBTQIA+, have eating disorders or a history of eating disorders, and for those of all economic and racial backgrounds.
Why did I become an dietitian?
Since I will know quite a bit about you if you choose to work with me, it is only fair that I share some of my story with you. I struggled with disordered eating growing up, which hit a peak at around age 18. I was diagnosed with celiac disease about a month before my 18th birthday, and realized I had the unique opportunity to change my relationship with food. As someone with a history of an eating disorder, and with an autoimmune disease, I recognize the way this has shaped me as a dietitian and has elevated my ability to care for others.
What certifications do I hold?
I am a registered dietitian who is licensed in the State of Washington and by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. I also am Intuitive Eating Certified.
I offer nutrition counseling under a non-weight centric lens to adults. I believe each person is unique and has different needs. It's my belief that most individuals could benefit from having a dietitian on their team.
I take a non-diet and informed approach to nutrition counseling. I want to help you through nutrition concerns you are undergoing, without causing further body shame or low self esteem. Each individual is capable of achieving an increased ability to have intuitive eating.
It is very likely you have been given weight centered care in your past. My philosophy is different. However, I will likely still ask about weight and weight changes as part of your holistic well-being, to ascertain for concerning weight changes or to ensure you are eating adequately. I do not use weight or body size as an indicator of health.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you are suffering from or suspect you may have an eating disorder. I will refer you upwards if I feel you need more support, but I do believe many individuals can be successful in outpatient care depending on circumstances.
I split my sessions into initial appointments and follow-ups. Every individual will get an initial appointment that runs longer, then we will switch to shorter follow-up sessions.
I use a motivational interviewing counseling style. This means we will get to the bottom of issues together. I want to help you create habits that fit your life and feel authentic to you.
Q: Should I also look into getting a therapist as well?
A: I recommend that any client struggling with mental health concerns get set up with a therapist. I can assist you in this process of finding a therapist and can also coordinate with any therapist you see.
Q: How can I fit a dietitian into my busy schedule?
A: While many do benefit from weekly sessions others may find monthly sessions most productive. Some worksites will allow their staff to fit counseling into the work day. I highly recommend advocating for yourself to your management if you are able. I offer sessions from 8 am to 5 pm, so some may be able to see me before or after their work day.
Q: Do you take insurance?
A: I am currently credentialed with Regence BS and I am working on becoming credentialed with other select insurance companies. I cannot refund sessions retroactively once I do become credentialed with others. I can offer Superbills as well.
Q: What if I want to pay out of pocket?
A: You can always pay for counseling out of pocket if I do not take your insurance or your insurance will not provide you with adequate coverage.
Q: Can you offer referrals for higher levels of eating disorder care? Can you help me get set up with other medical providers?
A: Yes. If I believe you need a higher level of care, I will discuss this with you and help you through this process. I can also assist you in finding other health professionals that are not weight centric.
